To schedule a mammogram:

The Digital Mammography Imaging Screening Trial (DMIST) concluded in the fall of 2005.  The study was the largest of its kind and involved 42,760 asymptomatic women. It concluded that digital mammograms were better than analog x-rays in detecting breast cancer in younger women and women with dense breasts.  It also reported 28% more cancers were detected with digital mammography than standard mammograms.  Having more accurate breast cancer diagnosis may reduce the need for unnecessary and invasive biopsies.

Digital mammography provides a clearer image and uses less radiation than film mammography.  The digital images are stored on a computer and can be electronically transmitted.  Exam times are reduced and women experience a more comfortable procedure.

Beverly Hospital’s Breast Health Center in Danvers has digital mammography.   In addition, each screening mammogram is double-read using the ImageChecker® Computer Aided Detection (CAD) System by R2 Technology, increasing diagnostic accuracy.

Northeast Health System mammography facilities possess a valid license and certificate of inspection issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
